"Planting flowers represents hope for the future. I wrote this song, “Flowers”, in November of 2020 with Bre Kennedy and Henry Brill. Essentially, it’s about a breakup but more so, about the cycles of grief and the parallels I saw in nature, gardening on my farm, as I processed that grief. The prettiest blooms literally come from shit, it’s a fertilizer. Furthermore, I wanted to claim my right to feel my feelings. As I grieved, not only for my relationship but for the world in the midst of a pandemic, I felt like my anger made people uncomfortable. In my experience, no one likes an angry woman. So, while I went through this arc in the song of sorrow, despair, anger, compassion, acceptance and hope (and my right to feel all of these things), I think I come out the other side empowered and ready to step back into my light. I can grow my own flowers and make my own joy."
